On March 3, 2002, Rev. Allen Yarbrough and his wife, Sheilah, began their ministry at First Baptist Church of Wabasso. He became our longest tenured pastor in March of 2009. Prior to coming to First Baptist, he served as the pastor of Old Union Baptist Church in Harlem, Georgia for fourteen years. Pastor Allen began preaching at the age of eighteen. He celebrated 25 years as a pastor on November 1, 2013. Prior to serving as a pastor, he served as a youth director in several churches.
In 2011 their daughter, Angela, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following surgery, treatment and a cancer free diagnosis, Angela would face the battle of breast cancer again in 2012. She received a cancer free diagnosis once again following prescribed treatment. However, her battle against breast cancer was not over because in 2013 she once again heard the diagnosis, "you have breast cancer." Throughout each battle the family showed that they were a team in good times and bad as they fought the battle of breast cancer. Angela was a brave warrior who shared her testimony and words of encouragement to others throughout her battle and on October 4, 2014 God welcomed her into the portals of Heaven.
Pastor Allen and his family are adjusting to a new normal without Angela. They are experiencing God's grace and mercy as He brings comfort to their lives. It is the family's goal to share the message of hope and God's grace to others who are facing the battles of life.
Their daughter, Aundrea, son-in-law, Donald, and granddaughters, Madison and Kailey, are active members of a local church in Watkinsville, Georgia. While life can become quite hectic through their daily living they are making positive differences in the lives of others.
